Health professional will find it useful to participate in substance abuse education as recognizing patients that are at risk or are showing signs and symptoms of substance abuse could be key in their treatment. Health care professionals need to be able to recognize when a patient needs to be referred to a person who is skilled in the treatment of substance abuse. Also participating in substance abuse education may protect a health care provider from prescribing something that may be misused by someone who is having a substance abuse problem. Substance abuse education is also becoming more and more prevalent in schools. Reaching young people about this subject at an early impressionable age is very important.
